Connor and Cody: Birth Stories

Connor

I was due Christmas Day in 2003. Christmas came and went... I went into the dr.s for a check up and my blood pressure was wicked high. So the rushed me up to the "observing" area and had me call Chad telling me its going to be NOW. This was December 29th.
(((Keep in mind I had hired a doula and planned on natural water birth in water)))
***My Doula, who's name is Naomi was wonderful! She helped me get thru a very long and emotional birthing experience, even though it didn't work out the way we planned
So they get me all scared and hooked up to pitocin and put a patch called cirvadel (sp) on my cervix (sp). That threw my body into a two hour contraction! In the middle of that contraction Chad walked into my room with a salad that had one single ring of onion in it and he almost lost his knee caps because onion smell made me sick. I kept my eyes closed and my breathing going with Naomi in the rocking chair gripping the heck out of the arms.

(((no drugs yet)))

So we level out the two hour contraction and I am not progressing at all. Three days... let me say it again. THREE DAYS later, I am 2 centimeters dialated and still no drugs. They send me home. I'm still contracting and they SEND ME HOME!

Mean while my blood pressure is still sky high and I'm in terrible pain. They say to come in the next day so I can have my blood pressure tested and see if I have progressed on my own. Sooo its still wicked high and NO progression.

They put me BACK on pitocen. It's Jan. 2nd. And hheeerree we go again.

(((no drugs yet)))

So Jan. 5th rolls around. Water has been broken, there is some meconium in the water, blood pressure is wicked high, pitocen has gotten me to 4 cm and progression has stopped but NOT THE PAIN. So after doing all the breathing and water jets and showers and deep weird moaning I HOOK MYSELF UP WITH SOME GOODDD DRUGS!!! GOD BLESS EPIDURALS!

I got to 7cm.

So, 4ish my doc comes in, looks at Connor's heart rate and tells me that we need NEED need to do a C-Section he's in trouble. She gave me a moment to talk with Chad alone and off to the OR we went.

(((YESS DRUGS)))

During the surgery I had the doc turn on the radio and we were all singing country in the OR. Chad was petrified, I was too but had to make jokes and sign like a dork.
Connor arrived at 5:48pm. 8.9 lbs. 7+ days of labor, most without drugs. I vow never EVER to feel another labor pain again!
